Poppies

Through the dancing poppies stole
A breeze most softly lulling to my soul.

~John Keats

The poppy opens her scarlet purse of dreams.
~Scharmel Iris

And far and wide, in a scarlet tide,
The poppy's bonfire spread.

~ Bayard Taylor

I'm useless at marking all the projects from school because Lark Rise to Candleford season 2 came in the mail. Tonight I watched the last episode. Sadness. I'm going to miss those people. There was a wedding and the way the women wore flowers in their hair and pinned to their breasts, well I'm completely captivated by the story. My favorite character is Queenie. She's rosy-cheeked, industrious, loving and friendly and extremely tolerant. I love the setting, the story lines, the costumes, all of it.
And I absolutely need poppies in the garden. I shall buy them this weekend. What are you planting in your bit of earth?

Love poppies too,, don't often see them here, they used to grow wild in some places, I lived on a estate years ago covered in them as the builders had used poppies for their image/logo and planted them all over - they were certainly very cheering, the sight of that orangey red just lifted your spirits. Hope yours grow well.

Will you be buying season 3? I'm still watching series 3, been really busy lately, and now I am suffering withdrawal symptons from it, lol. I love Queenie too, the episode where she and Twister married was lovely. :)
We have poppies in our garden, absolutely loads and loads of them. Last year, there was so many, we were digging them up and giving them to our neighbours!
Another tv series I think you will enjoy is The Darling Buds Of May, it is about the Larkin family, who run a farm and other things in 1950's Kent, and it is wonderful. Everytime I watch it it makes me feel so happy. :) xxxx

Poppies! They symbolise the best of country side to me. Nothing is so lovely as a field of wild scarlet poppies.

your poppy photos are so full of sunshine and they have given me a morning smile.

i hope to plant some hanging deck pots full of white and purple petunias (wave variety)with a pop of pink here and there . . . but it's still a little risky so it will be a week or two.

i have purchased one purple columbine plant and one yellow one that i will put in the ground within my shade garden alongside a fern that is supposed to be cold hardy . . . after several years of trying i have yet to get a fern to winter over but i refuse to give up~!

but this morning it's all about cutting long stemmed tulips and daffodils for arrangements within the house. sprinkle in a few grape hyacinths and voila it's a delightful spring bouquet.

wishing you armfuls of the most fragrant and colorful flowers Pom Pom.

Love the poppies and the Keats - what is it about his verse that is so flowy and lyrical? Have you checked out the soundtrack to "Bright Star" on iTunes? You can download the tracks of Ben Whishaw reciting some of Keats's poems with beautiful harpsichord playing in the background. I downloaded these to my iphone (in my 'sleep music' playlist ;-) and listen to them as I drift off to sleep. The other night, Mr. FC (who normally doesn't notice) asked, 'who's that man talking?' hee hee.
And "Lark Rise to Candleford", isn't it just the best ever!? I just put the first season on my queue again -- it's been a few months since I first saw it, so I'm going to start over and see them all again. It's so comforting somehow, isn't it? The characters have a little trouble and then all is well in the end -- love it. And as you said it's so lovely visually as well.
Blessings,
G

I heart poppies. There is just something so delicate and whimsical about them. They only grow in wildflower plant areas here so I see them on the sides of city streets and in the median but never just in fields.

I am going to have check out Lark! I am going to need a good addiction this summer...and now that LOST is almost over. sigh

I love poppies too, and mine are still coming up. No big buds yet, but soon, I'm sure. Can't wait.

There are some lovely things about "the old days and old ways" that I wish were still in fashion. Surely we can pin a flower in our hair or upon our breast, Pom Pom?

I love poppies! We don't grow them, but when I lived in Germany they grew in a field across from our house.

I am growing marigolds. Last year Will wanted to plant some, and I though, "Oh, kinda boring, but if that's what he wants ..." We planted them with seeds from Johnny's and they were glorious! Nothing like the puny plants you get at Lowes. Some of them self-seeded, and we planted some more seeds just to have lots.

Thank you so much for your order!! Little mouse will be coming out to you tomorrow... she is in for a long journey and will be wanting cheese and lots of cuddles when she arrives...

Love the music on your blog by the way! Shot in the dark, but is it from Out of Africa? One of my favourite films...

I'm sorry your season is over, but you can always watch it again! Is there going to be a third season or is that the end? Enjoy the poppies, but don't fall asleep!

I didn't plant anything but I did help my husband trim the rose bushes! I hear that by trimming them after they bloom, they'll bloom again!

Oh, the gardens are beginning to show their splendor. Poppies are so lovely and delicate...they make me smile (: We have some beautiful African daisies, a type of lacy white beauty of which I do not know the name and then of course our tomatoes and peppers are coming along. LOVE this time of year.

Hello, Pompom,
I love poppies, too. They are such a cheerful flower. I grow some, and I also recently planted yellow daylilies. It is already very hot here in Central TX so I am back to my watering routine. I have not seen or even heard of Lark Rise but am very interested in seeing it. I will definitely be looking into that one. Have a lovely Friday and terrific weekend~ Vicki

I love your poppies (such happy flowers!) and Firefly above mentioned the movie Bright Star, which I have watched a dozen times just to hear Keats' poetry!! A beautiful movie, every frame is a painting. We are planting zinnias and carrots, rosemary, and yellow peppers ~ so far. A very curious combination. This was to have been the year of the garden, but now I am not so sure. But it's still only May! Who knows what the summer will bring?? xo Kari
